Over 200 Sri Lankans from London arrive, 4,500 still in quarantine

Colombo: The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said a total of 208 individuals, including students, were flown to Sri Lanka this morning from London.

They were taken to the tri-service -managed Quarantine Centers (QCs) for quarantine process, the Head of the NOCPCO, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said.

One more group from the UK, inclusive of state officials and students is to be flown home tomorrow (5) morning by a SriLankan flight from London and they too would be directed to tri service-run QCs for quarantine process.

Meanwhile, 119 Beruwela-resident individuals who underwent quarantining at Maduruoya and 10 more quarantined at Nipuna Boossa at Army and Navy-managed QCs after the conduct of PCR tests on the left for their residences today (04) with Quarantine Certificates.

So far, a total of 5,052 quarantined individuals from the tri service-managed Quarantine Centers (QC) have left for their homes.

Likewise, 1031 family members, close contacts of that infected Navy personnel have been directed to QCs for quarantining as of today (04).

As of now, 4522 persons are still in quarantine in island-wide 35 QCs, run by tri-services.

By Monday, sailors confirmed positive to the COVID-19 virus stood at 296, the majority infected inside the camp and the rest while on leave outside the camp. Waikkal Dolphin Hotel extending its corporate social responsibility with all facilities free of charge has volunteered to accommodate 223 health officials minor staff and tri-service personnel for the quarantining process, according to the Head of the NOCPCO.
