Japan on Friday extended $14.8 million emergency grant aid to India under which it will provide 1000 ventilators and 2000 oxygen cylinders to help boost India’s response to managing the current COVID-19 crisis.

The aid will be provided through the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS). It comes as part of the $50 million assistance that Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi had earlier announced on 5 May.

In the coming weeks, it will provide additional 800 ventilators as well as oxygen cylinders to India.

“Japan stands with India, our friend, and partner, in her efforts to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through this additional emergency assistance, and hopes that Japan’s assistance will contribute to alleviating and containing the COVID-19 situation in India,” a statement released by the Japanese Embassy in India read.

Earlier in April  Japan shipped 300 oxygen cylinders and ventilators as part of its initial emergency assistance to India.
