Journalistic memoirs in India are rare, especially the kind that bring alive the era of sending news dispatches by telegram that used the Morse code. But that era in the late 1960s and 70s had its own romance when news was just news and opinion was left at home by journalists. Reminiscing precisely such a career spanning 50 plus years is the veteran journalist-columnist Mahendra Ved who has just published his memoir at age pithily titled @75 As I saw It.

Ved, who has reported the news and analyzed it for close to 70 percent of India’s existence as an independent nation-state, spoke to Mayank Chhaya Reports about what it means to be an old-school print journalist who is not confused between the news and opinion.
