Around 119 former and incumbent state officials of the Maldives government are in the list of the suspected beneficiary in the MMPRC scandal that happened during the reign of former president Abdullah Yameen, reported Raajje TV.

On Thursday, a joint parliament committee made the report public, revealing the names of all 282 persons who are suspected beneficiaries. The list includes 119 officials of the government.

Several high-ranking officials and leaders in the archipelago siphoned off public money in the tune of millions during the earlier administration. Former president Yameen is already serving a five-year sentence in the case, while his deputy, former vice-president Ahmed Adeeb got 20 years in prison.

Yameen is also facing several charges of money laundering. However, despite his prison sentence, he has been currently kept under house arrest due to the Covid-19 situation. He and his party, though, deny the charges and call it politically motivated.

Earlier in April, former president and current Speaker Nasheed had promised to reveal the names of people involved in the scandal. Nasheed, who along with incumbent President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, had defeated Abdullah Yameen in the 2018 general elections.

Nasheed had warned last month that some officials might have to lose their jobs once the list became public.
