Israel will donate vaccines to the Maldives along with 18 other countries, reported Sun news. Israel, which has rolled out one of the fastest vaccination drives in the world, will donate 1000-5000 Moderna vaccines to these nations.

The Maldives, Cyprus, Mauritania, Hungary, Honduras, Guatemala, Czech Republic, San Marino, Ethiopia, Chad, Kenya, and Uganda are the countries that will receive vaccines from Israel.

Israel had also sent a portion of its surplus vaccines to Palestine after inoculating a vast majority of its own people. However, the government faced some resistance from its own cabinet ministers for the move.

The Maldives government is yet to make a clear statement on the subject. Mebrook Azeez, the spokesperson for the Maldives president, however, had said earlier that the government had not made any request for vaccines to Israel.

Recently, the archipelago has criticized Israel’s actions of air raids and bombing campaigns on Gaza.
