The Police have arrested 15 suspects involved in supplying drugs and phones to the inmates at the Kalutara prison.

Two persons, who have skillfully supplied drugs and equipment to inmates at the Kalutara Prison, have been arrested initially during a raid conducted by the Kalutara North Police.

According to the police, the contraband hidden in tennis balls have been thrown into the prison from behind the prison wall. It is reported that heroin, tobacco, mobile phones and other accessories have been provided in this manner.

It is said that money has been given to an organized group of 15 people who have been carrying out this racket for some time. Investigations have revealed that Rs. 15,000 was paid to provide some item in one tennis ball.

Two suspects were arrested last evening and two parcels containing two mobile phones, two chargers and 300 grams of heroin were found in their possession.

According to information obtained from the two suspects, the other 13 suspects have also been arrested by the police.

All the 15 suspects are to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate today.
