O how immortal is the soul,
And how fatal is desire,
Are we designed to fall prey
And be consumed by fire ?

Is the spirit truly divine,
And the flesh mortally weak ?
Does the devil reside within us,
Is man’s future ominously bleak ?

Or is desire the needed engine,
That locomotion provides,
To the spirit that resides within us,
And not that which us divides ?

Is desire just temptation?
Or, does there lie within it,
Man’s salvation, Ashok,
And tell me, if desire is divine writ ?

Is it dark and dangerous,
Or, does it the spirit lift ?
Is it the abode of Satan,
Or, is it God’s gift ?
