Dhaka: Bangladesh has confirmed 10 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday, taking the total to 60.

The tally of infections rose to 1,572 in the same period after another 341 people tested positive for the virus, Nasima Sultana, additional director general of health services, said on Thursday.

This is the highest single-day jump in infections since the first cases of the virus were detected in Bangladesh on Mar 8.

The number of recovered patients remains at 41 with no new recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to the health directorate.

Among the 10 fatalities, one was aged between 70 and 80, five between 61 and 70 years old, three between 51 and 60 years and the other one was between 21 to 30 years, according to the health directorate.

As many as 37 people were sent into isolation while nine others were released. A total of 461 people are currently in isolation.
