China has donated over another stock of essential medical equipment and supplies worth over Rs. 211 million to Sri Lanka to control and prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Hu Wei, Chargé d 'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka handed over the second batch of donation to the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Pavithra Wanniarachchi today (27) at the Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health.

Among the medical aid supplied by the Chinese government are 20,016 Novel Coronavirus (2019 - ncoV) Nucleic Acid Diagnostic Kit (PCR - Fluorescence Probing), 10,000 Medical Protective Face Masks, 100,000 Surgical Masks, 10,000 Disposable Coveralls, 1000 Medical Goggles, and 5000 single-use Rubber Surgical Gloves.

Acting Chinese Ambassador Hu Wei has also presented a report on the measures taken by China to curb coronavirus to the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

“As a sincere friend of Sri Lanka, China will, as always, firmly support Sri Lanka's fight against the epidemic, and is willing to continue to provide assistance within its capacity according to Sri Lanka's needs. I believe that the people of Sri Lanka can overcome the epidemic as soon as possible,” the Chinese envoy said.

Minister Wanniarachchi said that the number of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka has been growing rapidly recently, and some front-line personnel are unfortunately infected, and the epidemic prevention situation is very serious.

She said the Sri Lankan government and people are deeply grateful to China, as Sri Lanka's most trusted friend, providing the urgently needed medical aid including detection reagents and personal protective equipment.

Vice chairman of the executive board of the World Health Organization and Director General of Health Services at the Health Ministry Anil Jasinghe said the medical aid donated by China is very valuable to Sri Lanka in its fight against COVID-19.
