The Indian community in Sri Lanka has requested the Indian High Commission in Colombo to provide them the COVID-19 vaccines, reported Daily Mirror. This came after the island nation, too, is witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases. 

The report, citing sources, said the Indian mission in Sri Lanka has received several requests from the community in recent days. However, so far, no such specific request has been made to the Sri Lankan government, the report added. 

Earlier, India had donated a million vaccines to Sri Lanka. The country also received vaccines in donations from China. However, Sri Lankan authorities have not yet approved. Though, 2000 Chinese, employed in Sri Lanka, have been vaccinated by the vaccines donated by China.

Sri Lanka, like many nations that have had contracts with the Serum Institute of India, is struggling to get the deliveries of vaccines, and now looking for alternatives.
