Former Sri Lankan Prime Minister and present opposition MP Ranil Wickremesinghe has advised the government to engage with the International Monetary Fund to tide over the economic crisis.

Addressing parliament after taking oath as MP of the United National Party, Wickremesinghe requested the government to come up with a strategy to overcome the pandemic and the impending economic crash, ColomboPage reported.

He said the government cannot repair the situation by talking about the past and urged it to spell out the options if it was reluctant to deal with the IMF.

Wickremasinghe said the corona epidemic has severely hit the country’s economy and alleged that a task force appointed to control the infection got stalled.
