    The BJP led NDA alliance narrowly won the Bihar elections beating the ‘grand alliance’. The implications of a state elections are normally not nationally significant. Not this one. The study examines national im-plications including the continued trust in a strong leader; but while Modi keeps winning, the economy, border etc   all look bleak; hope for Opposition - a broad-based politics can facilitate forging long-term coa-litions; the Bihar rout exposes deep divisions in the Congress once again; and finally the challenge from Asaduddin Owaisi to Hindi belt politics.
