Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman has welcomed the India-Pakistan joint statement which called for strict observance of ceasefire along the border, reported Dawn. He also stressed the importance of mutual dialogue for the resolution of all bilateral disputes, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

The remarks came on Saturday in a joint statement released by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is on a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fortify the “upward trajectory” in the bilateral relationship.

The visit is significant as the ties between the two countries came under strain last year following Saudi refusal to call an emergency meeting of the OIC foreign ministers. The meeting was requested by Pakistan. Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan’s foreign minister, then had publicly criticized Saudi Arabia. The Gulf’s pre-eminent power demanded the return of its loans given to Pakistan.

During Imran Khan’s visit, the leaders of the two countries also discussed the regional security situation, including the issue of Afghanistan. The crown prince called for a political settlement to end the conflict in Afghanistan.

They have also discussed the situation in Yemen and called for a comprehensive political solution based on the Gulf initiative. Pakistan also condemned terrorist attacks launched by Houthi militias.
