The Indian High Commission in Pakistan has been put on high alert following the kidnap of an Afghan envoy's daughter in the country. After the attempted kidnapping of Afghan diplomat Najibullah Alikhil's daughter in Islamabad, the Indian mission staff and their family members have been asked to remain vigilant and alert and take extra security precautions, sources told ANI news agency.

Afghan ambassador in Pakistan, Najibullah Alikhil's daughter was abducted and tortured before she was released, local media reports were quoted by IBNS as saying.

Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the act and called for safety to Afghanistan’s diplomatic mission in Pakistan, said Tolo News.

"The daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad Ms. Silsila Alikhil, was abducted for several hours and severely tortured by unknown individuals on her way home," the ministry said in a statement as quoted by Tolo News.

After being released from the kidnappers' captivity, Alikhil is under medical care at a hospital in Islamabad, the statement added.

MoFA said it is concerned over the safety and security of diplomats, their families, and staff members of the Afghan political and consular missions in Pakistan.

"While the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, we urge the Pakistani government to identify and prosecute the perpetrators at the soonest possible time," read the statement.(SAM)
