With the Bangladesh government allocating a plot at the diplomatic enclave at Baridhara, an upscale residential area in capital Dhaka, the Royal Bhutan Embassy will soon have a new chancery with traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Baridhara is a 10-minute walk from the present embassy at Gulshan 2, according to Kuensel newspaper. The new chancery is located next to the Indian Embassy.

The construction was deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The present embassy will be turned into the ambassador’s residence.

Former Bangladesh president Hussain Muhammad Ershad had gifted the two-storeyed present embassy building to Bhutan in 1985.

The Royal Bhutan Embassy in Dhaka also looks after the country’s affairs with the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and South Korea.
