Vendetta

Vengeance is a bit of a joke

Vengeance is a bit of a joke
Revenge no more a joke charada,
The ‘Reaper’ the only one with power,
With it’s scythe, it’s trump card.

Alas! He who is mortal does vendetta seek
And, that is a bit of a laugh,
For the one more fragile than even glass
Threatens the use of the staff
To destroy another,
Whose presence is no more than chaff.

Each moment that we joyfully live,
We die too,
It’s all a matter of half and half,
Half you and half me, that’s more than true.

Can we then avenge anything at all,
Act of Nature or otherwise?
When we yourselves are all at the mercy
Of the Angel of death’s watchful eyes.

Even the thought of ‘hitting back’
Is bizarre in itself, that’s true,
Cos self-defeating is this feeling
Toxic and corroding too.

Leave it then for others to do,
You should save yourself, shouldn’t you?
Vendetta is futile.
