If This Valley In Which I Wander
If this valley in which I wander,
And the hills surrounding it,
If this valley in which I wander,
And the hills surrounding it,
Were mine and only mine forever,
I wouldn’t mind it a bit!
But if it made me happier
I would unhappy be, ‘Cos
I would realise then and very soon,
Happiness from things is like asking for the moon.
Neither valley nor the hills
Nothing within or without,
Are mine, any more than is this earth
Or the land of my birth;
For I too can lay no claim
To even poor old me, ‘Cos
I too am owned wholly by
My own Destiny.
