At least 34 civil society organizations in the Maldives have called for the boycott of French goods and products alleging France has belittled and insulted Islam and Prophet Muhammad, reported by the Sun.

The row erupted when French President Emmanuel Macron announced his plans to combat the spread of “radical Islam” calling it “a threat to French secular values.” Soon after the announcement,  a school teacher, Samuel Paty, was beheaded by a Muslim fundamentalist after he showed a caricature of Prophet Muhammad in his classroom just outside Paris. On Thursday, another extremist killed three people in a church in Nice.

Civil society organizations in the Maldives asked the government to cease all economic and political cooperation with France until it apologized to Muslims all over the world.

France has been facing the heat from many Muslim nations and governments since President Emmanuel Macron unveiled its plan to fight the spread of “Islamic Fundamentalism.”
