The Maldives has introduced a special loyalty program for tourists. This is the first time such a program has been introduced in the world.

The tourism promotion program initiated by Maldives Immigration and developed with joint stakeholders titled ‘Maldives Border Miles’ is a three-tiered loyalty program in which tourists will earn points based on the number of visits and duration of stay. Additional points will be awarded for visits to celebrate special occasions.

The program was launched by Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom at a special virtual ceremony held Sunday night. Speaking at the ceremony, Tourism Minister Mausoom said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s decision to reopen the country’s border on July 15 was a risky, yet crucial move. The newly initiated program brings new hopes, and 2021 will likely be a successful year for Maldives tourism, said the minister.
