Amid the significant reduction in the daily Covid-19 cases, the Maldives lifted curfew from capital Male and announced relaxation for vaccinated people in interisland travel.

Earlier, the country imposed strict restrictions when the cases began to rise around mid-May. Daily cases touched 1500 at the time. On Tuesday, however, it reported just 100 cases.

Abrook Azeez, the spokesperson for the Maldivian president, announced on Monday about resuming business operations upon lifting of curfew in Male. Under new guidelines, cinema and congregation of not more than 30 people will be allowed among other activities.

Also, the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the nerve center of the archipelago's Covid management, also allowed resort workers to travel to their respective homes in islands without restrictions. Earlier, they were subjected to mandatory quarantine and negative RT-PCR reports.

However, this relaxation is only granted to those workers who are fully vaccinated. Over 80 percent of resort workers have already been vaccinated in the country.
