2021 Asia Cup has been called off due to rising COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka, country’s cricket board chief Ashley de Silva announced. The tournament was slated to be held in June.

However, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Silva pleaded helplessness.

"Due to the prevailing situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year," De Silva told reporters.

The tourney was originally scheduled to be played in Pakistan but got shifted as India was unlikely to travel there because of political tension between the two nations.
