Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, on Monday, called for the “best possible understanding” between Indian and Bangladesh, reported The Daily Star.

Doraiswami was speaking at an inauguration ceremony of a renovated Media Centre of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka. In his address, he termed the Bangladesh media “free, vibrant, colorful and very vocal.” The Press Club demonstrates the spirit of Bangladesh, he added.

The relationship between the two countries is expanding and more needs to be done to expand the cooperation between the media of the two countries, said Farida Yasmin, the president of the Jatiya Press Club.

She also remembered the contribution of the Indian high commissioner in upgrading the media center there. She thanked the Indian High Commission for the assistance provided to the club.

Remembering the 1971 Liberation War, the Indian envoy said that India respects independence, and stories of Bangladesh's struggle to achieve that.
