US authorizes its citizens living in Nepal to leave country

US officials are currently working on plans to help US nationals living in Nepal to leave the country amid increasing coronavirus cases, reported The Himalayan Times. Earlier, It had allowed its diplomats and their families to leave the country.

In a statement on Friday this week, the US Department of State, said, All non-essential diplomats and families of the US Embassy staff will be allowed to leave Nepal at government expense owing to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Currently, international flights are banned in Nepal, and officials are discussing plans to arrange charter flights for them. Americans, living in Nepal, have been asked to register their interest at the US embassy in Kathmandu for the arrangement.

The department has also advised Americans to avoid any travel plans to visit the country currently. 

Earlier, the US also granted passage to American nationals to leave India which has also been witnessing a deadly second wave of coronavirus infections.
