Bangladesh capital Dhaka sees nearly seven percent rise in cost of living

The living cost in Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka rose by 6.88 percent while the price of goods and services went up by 6.31 percent in 2020, according to a consumer body report

The living cost in Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka rose by 6.88 percent while the price of goods and services went up by 6.31 percent in 2020, according to a consumer body report.

In 2019, the percentages were 6.50 and 6.08 respectively. The previous year saw living cost and the price of goods and services rise six percent and 5.19 percent respectively.

According to the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), the living cost of the Dhaka dwellers has been rising for three consecutive years, with the highest in 2020.

The CAB report on living cost and consumers’ rights analyzed prices of 114 food items, 22 essential commodities and 14 types of services at 15 retail markets and different service entities.

However, the analysis excluded education, medical and actual travel expenses from the calculation, Prothom Alo reported.
