Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to temporarily suspend the arrival of passengers from the United Kingdom with effect from today (22) due to the new strain of the COVID 19 coronavirus that is fast spreading across the UK

Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to temporarily suspend the arrival of passengers from the United Kingdom with effect from today (22) due to the new strain of the COVID 19 coronavirus that is fast spreading across the UK.

The decision was taken during the meeting with the COVID Committee, which meets daily at the Presidential Secretariat today (22), after reviewing the new strain of the COVID virus and its spread.

Passengers arriving in the island from England today are to be subjected to PCR testing and directed to accommodate in hotels for quarantine for 14 days under full health supervision. They have to be quarantined in their homes for another 14 days.
