Japan-funded Research and Training Complex in Jaffna inaugurated

Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris and Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka Akira Sugiyama inaugurated the new Japan-funded Research and Training Complex of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna at the Kilinochchi Faculty of Agriculture affiliated to the Jaffna University.

The Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided a grant assistance worth Rs. 2.8 billion to build this Research and Training Complex, which is expected to provide good environment for research and training for improving the productivity of agriculture and livestock industry in the dry zone of the Northern Province.

The Agriculture Research and Training Complex consists of three buildings specially constructed for research and training, farm management and processing training, Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris expressed appreciation for the generosity of Japan, adding that Japan is one of the oldest and largest donors to Sri Lanka and always asks Sri Lanka what it needs when extending assistance.
