Three Bangladeshi Canadians, including the owner of a premier sweetmeat store, have died in a road accident in Canada.

The accident took place when their vehicle veered off Highway 401 near Cornwall in Ontario, reports Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The single-vehicle crash happened on the highway's westbound lanes between the Boundary Road and McConnell Avenue exits, it said citing Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

According to the initial investigation, the vehicle left the highway, hit the ditch and caught fire, OPP said in a news release.

Apart from Premium Sweets owne Moniruzzaman Bijoy, the other victims were his mother-in-law, and one Liyakat Hossain, according to local media, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Canada-based online portal Probash Bangla Voice reported that the woman and Liyakat died on the spot, while Moniruzzman succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Sunnybrook Hospital.

The accident occurred while they were traveling from Ottawa to Toronto, it said.

Moniruzzaman Bijoy is the younger brother of Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada (BBCC) President HM Iqbal, the report said.

Headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Premium Sweets manages multiple production facilities globally with corporate-owned and operated retail and restaurant outlets in Bangladesh, Canada, and the USA.
