Pakistan, despite contributing less than one percent of total carbon emission, is most at risk due to climate change, said Prime Minister Imran Khan. He also referred to melting glaciers of the country’s north and northwestern parts.

“We are more vulnerable than Bangladesh ...due to the melting of our glaciers. It is not our fault. There are giants that contribute to carbon emissions but countries like us face the consequences,” he was quoted by Daily Pakistan at an event organized by the Ministry of Climate Change as part of World Environment Day.

Referring to the United States President Joe Biden's climate policies, he said his administration was focusing on climate change. “The previous administration was not thinking about environmental degradation," he said.

“If we wanted to protect future generations from the impact of climate change, it is imperative to take steps to protect the environment, which include making national parks, planting trees, and carrying out urban forestry,” he said.

Khan also stressed the need to utilize all available resources to increase the number of trees in the country. he added that China had also developed a green city. "We can learn a lot from China."

He lauded the fact that mangroves had increased in the country during the last 20 years despite deforestation. Over the years, he claimed that awareness regarding climate change has increased especially among school children.
