The Pandemic and Us

Let’s cut the mournful numbers out
Let’s hum the tunes that bring us joy,
Let’s show the verve of the Sailor to all
As he cries out “Ship Ahoy”.

The Earth is turning the colour Red
The Seas may also soon follow suit,
The Pandemic has Man so, deeply, engulfed
For, it is a ruthless, uncaring, brute.

We’ll have to beat it on the ground
But, in our thoughts and minds too,
Never, by it, to get overwhelmed
Nor, allow it to.

It’s a funny mental game that we now play
With, a mutating, varying, cunning adversary ,
Plagues and such never win, that’s true
But, their loss to them is like victory.

Each life we lose is irreplaceable
A tragedy for a family,
A fight between two unequals
Not a fair, battle at all, I agree

But, as they say, all is fair in love and war
The tongue so sweet, is a sword tomorrow,
Let’s fight the enemy, not each other
Let’s from each other the strength borrow,
Not recriminate in mutual sorrow.

We will succeed, no doubt, we will
Our guard, though, must never be down,
We mustn’t ever, in fear, drown
Nor, in triumph, go to to town.

The battle must be intelligently won
Till then, what needs to be done must be done.
