Around 500 Nepalis are likely to soon take up nursing care jobs in Israel. A government-to-government agreement has been signed last year between Nepal and Israel to finalize the protocols and procedures for the same. 

The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported preparations are in final mode and the Nepal government would soon seek applications for potential job seekers through an online portal. No private recruitment agency would be roped in for the facilitation of the process. Government agencies from the two nations would oversee the entire process. 

Nepal’s Department of Foreign Employment will directly hire the caregivers based on an examination, interview, and educational qualification. In Israel, the Population and Immigration Authority will see the migration.

The two countries had signed an MOU last September for the exchange of human resources, and a protocol for the same was finalized in February this year. 

Guidelines mandate an investment of NPR 90,000- a move being criticized by labor rights activists in Nepal.

“The draft of the working procedure has been submitted to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security. The draft was prepared by the department nearly two months ago,” said Tikamani Neupane, the spokesperson for Nepal's Department of Foreign Employment.

He said, “We have not yet gone online as there might be some changes in the working procedure. Following the suggestions from the ministry, some changes might be required with the online portal.” He hoped that the process of inviting applications would start in the next 10-15 days.
