Colombo: Sri Lanka is expecting two special flights from Kuwait Airways tomorrow bringing back Sri Lankans who are availing themselves of the amnesty scheme announced for illegal residents by the Kuwaiti government.

The flights are free, as they are being paid for by Kuwait.

Accordingly, Kuwait Airways' national carrier of the State of Kuwait will operate two flights to Colombo with Boing 777-300 & Airbus 330-200  to Sri Lanka tomorrow.

General Secretary of the Organisation of Protecting Sri Lankan Expatriates Rights Subashana Subawickrama in a live video released through Facebook said that the two flights are scheduled to arrive at Colombo at 6 pm on Tuesday and early morning on Wednesday.

Also, he said that the organisation has received numerous complaints from Sri Lankans that the Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait does not answer calls as there are many fellow Sri Lankans stuck at places with no idea about what to do to return to Sri Lanka.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, over 19,000 Sri Lankans who are out of status have been given an amnesty by the Kuwaiti Government.

The Ministry is still in discussion with the Kuwaiti government to extend the amnesty period for out of status Sri Lankans in Kuwait. (COLOMBO/May18/2020)
