Colombo: The number of COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka rose to 649 on Wednesday, health officials said, after 30 people tested positive for the virus.

Seven people have died after contracting the disease which started spreading in the country on March 11, while 136 people have recovered so far.

Accordingly, there are 506 active cases, health ministry data show.

On Monday, the country reported 65 new cases – recording the highest single-day toll, by surpassing the previous highest of 63 reported during the previous day.

A majority of the infections have been reported from capital Colombo with figures standing at 155.
