Colombo: The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 981, after 21 more people tested positive for the virus yesterday.

“Of the 21 cases confirmed yesterday, 19 were Naval personnel and the other two of those who returned to the island from the UK,” Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said Speaking to News 1st this morning.

Commenting on the quarantine figures in Sri Lanka, the Army Commander said over 3,000 people continue to remain in quarantine at 36 quarantine facilities run by the Tri-Forces.

He noted another batch of people who completed the quarantine period are set to be released today.
