Miss Universe Bangladesh Tangia Zaman Methila will not participate in Miss Universe 2020 pageant in USA in May due to the Covid 19 induced lockdown and travel restrictions in her country, Dhaka Tribune reported.

The official announcement that Methila would not take part in the beauty pageant was made by Miss Universe Bangladesh organisers .

"Due to lockdown and travel restrictions we could not finalize the preparations. So we will not be able to participate Miss Universe 2020,” they said.

"We already informed Miss Universe USA management accordingly earlier this week," they added.

Methila, a 28 year old model, was crowned the winner of Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020 earlier this month as she left behind nine other competitors in the national final in Dhaka.

She succeeded Shirin Akter Shela.

Methila was previously named Miss Supranational Bangladesh 2019 and travelled to Katowice, Poland, to compete in the Miss Supranational 2019 pageant.
