Two "foreign terrorists from Pakistan" were shot dead in a firefight along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian defence spokesperson said. Two Indian soldiers were also killed in the shootout. This was a major encounter along the Line of Control in recent days, Indian military sources were quoted as saying by IBNS.

"Based on information about infiltration and movement of terrorists in Dadal, Sundarbani sector, Rajouri district, the army had launched extensive search operations on Jun 29," the defence spokesperson was quoted as saying by NDTV.

"Subsequently, the information was corroborated on July 8 and a search and destroy patrol seeking proactive engagement with the terrorists, spotted them at Dadal forest and challenged them," he said.

"The terrorists opened fire and lobbed hand grenades, leading to a fierce encounter in which two foreign terrorists from Pakistan have been killed. In the operation, two jawans received fatal injuries. A detailed search of the area continues," the spokesperson added.

In another incident on Wednesday, a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist,  Mehrazuddin Halwai, known to use social media to find recruits, was eliminated by the security forces, Indian military officials said.

The Indian Army said that alert troops have successfully foiled an infiltration bid by neutralising one terrorist and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition including one Ak-47 rifle and hand grenades along the Line of Control in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir.(SAM)
