Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapksa wrote a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his “deep empathy and concern” over the unfolding crisis brought by the second wave of the COVID-19 in India.

Expressing his confidence over India’s ability to overcome this crisis, he wrote, “I am confident that under your able leadership, and with the resolute support of dedicated experts and professionals, India will soon thwart the current havoc of the pathogen.”

Furthermore, he also informed that Buddist clergy in Sri Lanka are planning to recite mantras to invoke blessings on the people of India. This, he said, demonstrates the close bond and affinity between our countries.

He also expressed his gratitude for the vaccines India has donated to the island nation under its ‘Vaccine Matri” initiative.
