Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will undertake a two-day visit, starting from Saturday, to the Maldives. During his visit, he would review the entire gamut of the bilateral ties and take stock of the progress of various projects funded by India there.

“EAM will call-on H.E. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and have substantive discussions with the Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Finance, Economic Development and Planning & Infrastructure,” reads a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs.

During his visit, he will meet Maldivian Speaker Mohammed Nasheed and other leaders of political parties.

Earlier, in November last year, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla also visited the Indian Ocean archipelago where he had signed various agreements, including the agreement to extend $400 million for the Greater Male Connectivity project.

Also in November, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and India held a trilateral NSA level dialogue in Columbo to boost maritime security cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

A report in Sun says India and the Maldives would sign important agreements during the two-day visit of Jaishankar this week.
