In what comes as good news for Pakistan migrant workers, Qatar, an important Gulf country and home to many Pakistan workers, might increase workers quota for Pakistanis in coming years, reported Dawn.

Mishal M Al-Ansari, the Qatari consul-general in Pakistan, on Monday said that Doha has plans to increase employment opportunities for Pakistanis to over 300,000. Currently, the Gulf nation allows just 150,000 workers annually.

The move will help increase the country’s remittance as Pakistan heavily depends on it to reduce its current account deficit. In 2020, it received around $24 billion in remittance which is estimated to grow by 9 percent this year.

He also said the number of companies with 100 percent holding by Pakistanis has increased in Qatar. His comment came when he was addressing a trade and industry association in Pakistan.

Calling the recently signed LNG deal an “important milestone for the bilateral relations, he said Qatar and Pakistan are also working on many joint ventures in Defence production, production of JF-17 aircraft, defense training, food, and agricultural industries.
