Prime Minister Imran Khan congragulated the country on Friday for witnessing a reduction in COVID-19 hospitalisations while taking a jibe at neighbouring India, which crossed the one million mark today, joining the ranks of US and Brazil.

In a tweet, he credited this 'positive trend' to smart lockdowns across the country and the SOPs prepared by the government.

Imran urged people to practice caution on Eidul Azha and avoid a repeat of the scenario which unfolded after Eidul Fitr when "SOPs were ignored and our hospitals choked".

As of now, Pakistan has 259,999 confirmed coronavirus cases and 5,475 reported deaths. Around 1,676,090 tests have been carried out thus far while 183,737 persons have recovered from the virus.

The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 13,886,134 as of today, with at least 589,567 deaths reported worldwide, according to a Reuters tally.
