Bangladesh wants to invest in Bengal; top biz captains repose faith in eastern state's economy

West Bengal was the first state to organise a physical business summit since COVID pandemic struck, Chief Minister Banerjee stated

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that his country is keen to make investments in West Bengal and said that Indian investors should reciprocate and invest in Bangladesh. 

Munshi, who was speaking at the inaugural session of Bengal Global Business Summit, 2022 in Kolkata Wednesday, said: "Mamata Banerjee is leading here and Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh as the country's prime minister. The Bangladesh economy is growing under Hasina's leadership. We want to invest in the state," he said adding he had met Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and had useful discussions.

Bhutan Minister for Economic Affairs Loknath Sharma said the country shares a 300 km border with West Bengal, which has made remarkable progress in technology. "Bengal means business and so do Bhutan ... 90 per cent of Bhutan's trade is with India. So we are inseparable," he added.

India's top industrialists reposed confidence in the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal and various industry houses committed about Rs 20,000 crore investment in the state on the inaugural day of the sixth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit,

The Adani Group alone committed Rs 10,000 crore investment over a decade in building "world-class" port infrastructure, state-of-the-art data centres and undersea cables that will connect them across oceans, centres of excellence in digital innovation, massive fulfilment centres, besides warehouses and logistics parks.
