A Bangladeshi painter has been sentenced to death for killing his Indonesian girlfriend in a Singapore hotel in 2018, The Straits Times reports.

Ahmed Salim, 31, had strangled domestic worker Nurhidayati Wartono Surata for refusing to leave a new man she was seeing in a room at the Golden Dragon Hotel in Geylang, according to the report.

Judicial Commissioner Mavis Chionh on Monday convicted Ahmed of a charge of murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty.
