Bhutan’s Finance Minister Lyonpo Namgay Tshering on Monday announced the National Credit Guarantee Scheme to provide Nu 3 billion in loan guarantee coverage for 3 years. 

The move comes in the wake of the credit problem faced by the cottage and small industries where the government plans to lend collateral-free loans for investments.
 
Loans will be available for medium and large scale industry and also for upgradation of small scale cottage industry to medium, medium to large scale industry.

Initially, the Bank of Bhutan, the Bhutan Development Bank and the National CSI Development Bank will provide these loans, but the government is working on amending laws to allow private lenders also for the purpose.
