In what comes as good news for Bangladeshi migrant workers, Singapore and Romania will recruit around 12,000 workers from the country, reported Dhaka Tribune. The move will help the country diversify its market access.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin informed that Singapore would recruit 10,000 Bangladeshi and Romania 2000 soon. “It is indeed good news,” he was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.

Remittances contribute a significant dollar income for the country and help reduce its current account deficit. In 2020, it received over $24 billion in remittances.

The latest opportunity will benefit the country, especially at a time of volatile oil economies of the Gulf countries. In 2020, many of its workers lost their jobs in Gulf countries and returned back. The government, since then, has been making constant efforts to secure markets for its overseas workers.

During the recent visit of Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid, two countries had also signed an MOU to establish a mechanism for exchanging human resources.
