China on Friday launched a second advanced warship for Pakistan Navy, Dawn reported. It will be one of the most high-tech warships of the country’s navy.

The launching ceremony was today held at a shipyard in China's Shanghai province. It was attended by Chief Naval Overseer (China) Commodore Azfar Humayun (of Pakistan) and senior Chinese officials, according to a statement from Pakistan Navy.

“The new warship would increase significantly enhance the maritime defense and deterrence capabilities,” said Commodore Humayun while speaking at the launching ceremony today.

He also appreciated the commitment shown by the Chinese firm for timely completion of the warship despite the challenges amid the global pandemic.

The warship -Type 054 Frigate- will be one of the most technologically advanced surface platforms of the Pakistan Navy's fleet, fitted with the latest surface, subsurface, and anti-air weapon system, the navy said in a statement.

In June 2019, Pakistan had announced purchasing of two multi-role Type-054 frigates from Chinese. Construction work started in January 2021 in China after the two countries signed a defense agreement.

The first frigate was delivered to Pakistan in August 2020.
