Speaking in the high court, in response to a petition filed in the HC seeking revision in the act, the Maldives Attorney General’s office said quota for women in local council is neither discriminatory nor unconstitutional.
A youth wing leader of Juhoory Party, Moosa Anwar, has filed a petition in high court asking for revision in Decentralization Act, which allows quota for women in local council, calling it unconstitutional.
