Sudesh Bhosle is one of India’s best-known singers and mimics who first shot to movie fame a little over 30 years ago when he was assigned by the iconic composer duo Laxmikant Pyarelal to sing in superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s voice. A highly skilled impersonator of movie star voices, he became the first singer-mimic to match a movie star’s voice as a playback singer.

The song ‘Jumma Chumma De De’ for the 1991 movie ‘Hum’ directed by Mukul Anand became a blockbuster hit and remains so today. So precise was Bhosle’s voice approximation to Bachchan that even the superstar was taken aback. Since then Bhosle has sung all major hit songs of Bachchan’s where he is required to sing in his “own” voice.

A much sought-after stage performer Sudesh Bhosle has performed around the world, including with several times with the great singer Kishore Kumar with whom he established a special rapport. He spoke to Mayank Chhaya Reports.
