The Nepal government has said there was no possibility of importing five million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from India soon, The Himalayan Times reported.

The country’s health and population ministry said out of two million doses of Covishield vaccines purchased from Serum Institute of India, one million was imported, but the other one million had not arrived due to a fire incident at the SII plant and a decrease in its production capacity.

The ministry, however, said the SII has promised to provide one million doses once its production capacity improves, the ministry added.

The ministry said the government was making diplomatic and other efforts to secure the supply of the COVID-19 vaccine.
