Colombo: Sri Lanka Foreign Secretary Ravinatha Aryasinha has directed the Sri Lankan embassy in Qatar to immediately find accommodation for the stranded Sri Lankans after the flight scheduled to bring them back was cancelled.

“In consultation with the Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena, I have instructed Sri Lanka’s Acting Ambassador in Qatar, as an interim measure, to immediately find accommodation for those stranded, following the cancellation of the Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Qatar, which was scheduled for today,” the Foreign Secretary said in a statement.

The government has decided to temporarily halt the repatriation of Sri Lankans from Qatar scheduled for today following the revelation that about 70 people out of the 466 Sri Lankans who were brought to Sri Lanka from Kuwait on 19th May are currently infected with coronavirus COVID-19.
