JAMMU AND KASHMIR: ONE YEAR AFTER 5 AUGUST; AN UNEASY PEACE

Last year, in August, parliament stripped Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy and special status. It was divested of statehood and downgraded into two Union Territories - Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.  One year later, the government argues that the reduction of violence and terror incidents is a sign that the people have come to accept what happened on August 5 last year. Others insist that people remain sullen, angry and humiliated.  The study examines contrary views to enable a proper assessment of the situation.
