Bangladesh has taken a number of initiatives with digital platforms like ChakrirKhoj (jobhunt) to help migrant workers get rid of middlemen or agents in their job searches in other countries, making the entire process transparent and hassle-free, The Daily Star reported quoting a senior envoy.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md Golam Sarwar said the government was careful so as to ensure nobody got cheated.

"There'll be no scope of fraudulence or getting cheated (by agents). We'll remain careful always so that no one gets cheated," Sarwar said while exchanging views with the members of Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) virtually.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur recently launched the job portal ChakrirKhoj at a virtual event, the report said.

High Commissioner Sarwar highlighted the various recent initiatives undertaken by the mission, aiming to benefit the large number of Bangladeshi expatriates living in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

He stated the Labour Recalibration Programme that regularises migrants with illegal status in Malaysia as foreign workers who can be employed by eligible employers.

The Labour Recalibration Programme kicked off on November 16, 2020, in cooperation with the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM), and other Malaysian government agencies without the involvement of vendors or third parties.

"This programme will continue until June 30, and it might get extended," said the High Commissioner adding that Bangladeshis only in Malaysia can apply under the programme now.

He said only 1,800 Bangladeshis applied in the first three months till February 16, while the High Commission expected that the applications would pick up to around 18,000-20,000,
